Description:
BlackSoul is a third person survival horror adventure game with an intriguing story that takes place somewhere in the English countryside: people have been turned into psychotic killers by an unknown infection and you must try to help Ava and Sean survive in the quarantined area and find out the truth about the infection. You won’t spend all your time on a killing spree, but you’ll need to solve many puzzles which will challenge you.
The story is set in England in 1972. Forget any government research labs in which they’re working on some kind of ultimate weapon; instead think of something much sadder and crueler…and even if the story is not based on truth, we’ll tell you about some events that really happened in the mid century.
Main Features:
  • ‘INTO THE EYE OF TERROR’
We’re using something we call a ‘dynamic camera system’ (like Silent Hill). This means that BlackSoul uses a third person camera but not at a fixed distance behind and slightly above the player (no tracking camera). Anyway the camera isn’t fixed in the scene, but it can look at the player and move when the player moves, thus giving the game new and disturbing cinematic qualities. “Dynamic camera” means that BlackSoul is not pre-rendered and everything you see is computed in real time.
  • ‘HANSEL AND GRETEL COVERED WITH BLOOD’
Ava and Sean are the two main characters who have distinct personalities and some different skills (like speed, health and so on) in order to make the gameplay as varied as possible. Health doesn’t regenerate automatically; you need to use a medikit (you’ll find medikit exploring levels).
  • ‘INSTRUMENTS OF JUSTICE’
Weapons range from a crowbar to some firearms. They have different features: damage, rate of fire, reload velocity, accuracy and so on. There isn’t infinite ammo but only that which you can find somewhere on each level. In this way choosing the best weapon in a given situation can make the difference between life and death.
  • ‘TORTURED SOULS IN A CRADLE OF MADNESS’
We have different kinds of enemies, ranging from “walking” to “running” enemies. They will have different skills such as strength and health, apart from speed, in order to make the action much more strategic. Enemies cannot only hurt, but they can also infect you. Infection slowly decreases your health until you drink the antidote…or die.
  • ‘SURVIVAL OF THE SMARTEST’
Puzzles are another important feature. You need to find one ore more items to be used together in order to activate a device or free a passage (or anything else); in this case you must find all the items you need (this will force you to explore accurately each level) and then use them in the right way. Often you’ll only need to use your brain or your senses. For example, you should figure out how to open a safe by reading a document. Some puzzles require a more detailed perspective (for example, to open a safe you must rotate the handles). In this case we use the point-and-click system, something like graphic adventure (camera close to the object and a little hand to perform action).
  • ‘HIDDEN TREASURES, HIDDEN MEANINGS’
Exploration is another feature of the game: you need ammo to reload your gun and a medikit and antidote to treat yourself, and you will find them only by exploring each level accurately. For this reason we’ve made very wide levels, giving you the opportunity to move all around them. Sometimes exploration can also help you find documents in order to add some great detail to the story.
  • ‘CARRY THE HORROR WITH YOU’
By exploring the world you’ll find several items and documents…you can manage all that stuff in your inventory. There are distinct actions to perform depending on the object you want to use or analyze. For example, you can read a document, listen to a cassette player, and destroy a wall by using a pickaxe.
  • ‘THE SOUND OF THE UNDEAD’
Last but not least is the soundtrack. Especially in a survival horror game you need amazingly immersive sound…in other words you need the best: Gargiulo.
